08/18/08: Router decided to flake out. Will be getting a replacement router tomorrow and installing in the evening. Apologies!

*PernMUSH is based on Anne McCaffery's Pern books. It is set in the 10th Pass of the Red Star, which began in the last decade (the MUSH was originally set in the Interval just before the Pass). Roleplaying is based on cooperation, rather than competition, so there is no system of points or combat.

Pern was originally a Terran colony, but the Turns (years) of fighting the voracious spore Thread, which falls from the skies at regular intervals, have eroded the memory of Pern's origins to mere legend. The level of technology is medieval, generally speaking. The Pernese protection from Thread are the dragons of Pern and their riders, who live in the Weyrs. Most of Pern's population lives in the Holds or the Crafthalls. In order to survive, Pern's inhabitants must cooperate, so armed conflict and wandering about the planet are extremely rare, if not all but abolished. A secure family and home is the most common background.

PernMUSH does not recognize the AIVAS plot presented in several of the more recently published books, so there is no 'rediscovering' of technology in our game. However in the turns since the timeframe of the books, the strictures against women have eased and women can be Lady Holders, CraftMasters etc and can ride any colour, but bronze.

UPDATE 08/13/08: We are back. We're still tweaking things as it is a new server, network, etc. so forgive any bounces.

As far as NorConMUSH is concerned, we wish them well. I hope they find there what they were not able to find on PernMUSH. Games starting up from ours is not a new occurence. We have weathered this type of thing before and don't see a reason why we won't again. There is plenty of room on the internet for other Pern games. :)

Re: NORCON -- To let everyone know, people are always welcome to come back BUT please know, the timeline has already split off per the leadership of NorConMU as of 08 Aug 2008. We feel it is important to respect their wishes in regards to the migration and the new game. That said, while returning folks are welcomed back with open arms, positions held prior to the "transfer" or positions held on the new time are not honored. You are welcome to return as a wingrider, resident, or standard crafter but as any transferring rider/resident/crafter, the need to reapply with the area leaders is necessary. This has always been the policy and will remain as such. No exceptions. It is not fair to those staying on the game and moving forward with RP about the disappearancs and retirements (on TOO in RP and on the game istelf) to not have a sense of home and timeliness.

Our goal is as it always has been to provide a fun, friendly Pern themed roleplay environment for all to enjoy while keeping to the canon of McCaffrey's world. We are happy that many people are planning on staying and we will work on making sure the game progresses forward in a fun and enthusiastic manner.
